A VB BASICS Giveaway {Win 100$ of Zutano} : CLOSED

November 18, 2015

Babies and Zutano bootiesI want to introduce you to a staple in my VB Basics “baby” wardrobe. Meet Zutano, a children’s clothing company located in the hills of my home state of Vermont. Their clothes are bold and bright, with versatile prints/patterns and are all made with the SOFTEST cotton. From preemie sizes all the way up to Toddler 4T, they have created clothing that is playful and fun yet very functional. The Zutano brand, its employees, and partners “firmly believe that we owe it to our children and our children’s children to inspire and engage the local and global community in a sustainable way that creates real and positive change”. They also have an acclaimed “Baby-to-Work” program that has been going on for a decade, in which their employees may bring their up to one year old babies to work with them. As a local Vermont business, Zutano certainly seems to be making an effort at home and worldwide to better our environment.

Let me tell you about why my family loves Zutano so much. Five years ago, I purchased a pair of their Cozie Baby Booties for our first child, and was instantly captivated by this great company. Jump forward to present day, and those same green fleece booties are in great condition, and are worn and well loved by my third baby boy. Zutano’s booties are my “go-to” baby gift, which I usually scoop up from Sprout Children’s Boutique, a local Virginia Beach business. The booties are toasty warm and actually STAY ON baby’s feet with the helpful snaps. I would like believe that every friend’s baby has a pair because of my recommendation – make sure you have the 6-12 month size, it’s the most practical size, I promise! (And how simply adorable is my oldest son with all his Virginia Beach baby buddies rocking their beloved booties in the photograph above? They were the runners up in a Zutano photo contest years ago).

As my boys have grown up, Zutano clothes in toddler sizes have filtered into their closets. The clothes are super comfortable for my active children, and the colors have never faded with all the use and MANY cycles in the washing machine! The boys LOVE the fun prints and I often have to dig through the laundry for the favorite Dino City print hoodie or search for the shorts with the “deep pockets” (quoting my 4 year old). Over the years we have come to adore their Spring, Summer and Fall lines, but as we move into the colder months here at the beach, their Cozie fleece is an absolute must-have to keep your kiddos warm. I’m especially digging their new collection of Warm Waffle Cozie, which I secretly wish they made in adult sizes…

Style Erin Headshot

When I first met Erin Heffelfinger of Style Erin, we were in the pre-school parking lot. If I remember correctly, she caught me on a lovely morning as I was disheveled mess. As you’ve probably already guessed, Erin was impeccably dressed. Wearing jeans and super cute ballet flats, her outfit was stylish yet practical for shuttling children around town. After giving me several words of encouragement and some solid advice, I couldn’t help but be impressed with how fashionable she was and how easy she made it look!

Over the past year as Erin’s business has grown, she has created an impressive portfolio of clients in Hampton Roads, Richmond, and in Northern Virginia. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed following along with her fashion adventures as she continues to find the latest trends throughout our town.

Are YOU a VB “local”?
I consider myself a local now after 10 years of living by the ocean. I grew up in Fredericksburg, have lived in Harrisonburg, Florence, Italy, NYC and Richmond before settling in Virginia Beach.

Favorite family activity to do in Virginia Beach
Going to the beach and riding beach cruiser bicycles.

Top 5 “must have” items for going to the beach
Sunscreen, a cute cover up, TKEES Flip Flops, a water bottle and tinted SPF lip balm.

A perfect date with your significant other
Straddling up to the bar for yummy food, a good cocktail and much-needed conversation. We rarely get to sit at the bar, it reminds me of our life before children. We’ve been together for 20 years!

Favorite restaurant(s)
Metropolitan Oyster Exchange, Eurasia Cafe & Wine Bar, Eat: An American Bistro, One Fish Two Fish, and Mojito Café.

Favorite place(s) to shop
I like to boutique shop for myself, but for clients I shop anywhere. Every store offers something different depending on the occasion, price point, and designer. My go-to’s are Jody G, Trish, Fabre, Bahama Shop, and The Beach Nut. For bigger retailers, I go to Apricot Lane, Bevello, Anthropologie, Free People, Nordstorm, H&M, Forever 21, and J.Crew.

Go-to drink(s) at the moment
Double 07…vodka, sprite with a splash of OJ and a lime.

Something you CAN’T live without
Lip gloss.

What’s on your bucket list?
Greece. I’m well traveled both nationally and internationally, but I’ve yet to make it to Greece.

Local tip
Don’t drive up Pacific Ave during the summer months. Always take the back roads, it’s quicker.

Any events in Hampton Roads that you’re looking forward to?
Holiday Lights on the Beach (it’s a family tradition), and The Nutcracker at Chrysler Hall.

What is your motto?
Life Is Too Short To Wear Boring Clothes!
